Dr. Julio Obst Camerini is an Argentine psychologist, educator, and cognitive behavioural therapist who represents the Latin-American Association of Analysis, Behavioral Modification and Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies (ALAMOC) on the WCCBT Board. He served as President of ALAMOC from 2020 to 2024 and currently serves as its Past-President and Director of Training.
Dr. Obst Camerini earned his degree in psychology from the University of Buenos Aires and a doctorate in social psychology from Universidad Argentina John F. Kennedy. He subsequently qualified as a university professor of psychology at the University of Palermo and completed postgraduate study in constructivism and education at the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences. He received advanced training at the Albert Ellis Institute in New York and the Beck Institute in Philadelphia and has served as an International Supervisor for the Albert Ellis Institute since 2000.
He is the founder and president of Fundación CATREC, the Argentine Centre for Cognitive and Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy, which has provided professional training in cognitive behavioural and rational emotive behaviour therapies since 2000. He has taught extensively throughout Latin America and has held teaching positions in postgraduate and doctoral programmes in Argentina and Panama. His current academic work includes teaching within professional programmes offered by the Universidad de Ciencias Empresariales y Sociales in Buenos Aires.
Dr. Obst Camerini’s professional interests include cognitive behavioural therapy, rational emotive behaviour therapy, integrative psychotherapy, psychodrama, and sexual therapy. He is the author and editor of several books, including El psicodrama cognitivo conductual, Introducción a las terapias cognitivas, La terapia cognitiva integrada y actualizada, and Introducción a las terapias sexuales. He also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Rational-Emotive & Cognitive-Behavior Therapy.
Through his leadership, teaching, and writing, Dr. Obst Camerini has contributed to the development and dissemination of evidence-based cognitive and behavioural therapies across Latin America. He also participated in the WCCBT Training and Accreditation Committee responsible for developing international guidance on the knowledge and competencies required of CBT practitioners.
